Applying filtering rules to a bridge offers many advantages. On Linux this can be achieved, using ebtables and the bridging code of the kernel. This lecture gives a short introduction to this topic. It was given at the Linux Security Symposium in October 2005 in Cologne. It was followed by a 4 hour workshop, where I communicated the practical knowledge of this topic.
